English Conversation & Social Program for Immigrants Ages 50+

Newcomers 50 years and older are welcome to attend this drop-in program to practice English, meet new friends, have fun and share a light lunch.
The group meets every second week for 2.5 hours during the day, September through June, in the Campbell River Community Centre. Participants range in age from early 50's into their 80's and come from many ethnic backgrounds including Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
The instructor and volunteers make each of the gatherings interesting, informative, educational and fun. Past activities have included Bocce, Frisbee Golf, garden tour, cultural presentations and outings, some simple stretching exercises, singing, and other interactive indoor games, followed by a delightful and delicious potluck lunch.
The goal of this program is to help decrease isolation amongst older immigrants living in the Campbell River area. The program operates as a partnership between CRMISA, Campbell River Parks and Recreation and 50+ Active Living Program. Thank you to the Ministry of Housing and Social Development’s Direct Access funding. All funding is received from their gaming funding.
